SECTION 504 OF THE REHABILITATION ACT OF 1973 AMERICAN WITH DISABILITIES ACT OF 1990

 

 

The St. John the Baptist Parish School Board, in accordance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) of 1990, provides that no qualified disabled individual shall, solely by reason of her or his handicap, be excluded from the participation in, denied the benefits of a Free, Appropriate Public Education (FAPE), or be subjected to discrimination under any program or activity receiving federal financial assistance, aid(s) or related benefits.

 

The St. John the Baptist Parish School Board shall ensure that students who are handicapped, regardless of the severity, are identified and provided appropriate educational services across the curriculum within the regular classroom setting as the first academic placement.

 

The St. John the Baptist Parish School System shall comply in areas of educational services inclusive of pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, elementary and secondary grade levels, adult education programs, as well as all certificated, non-certificated and support service employees.

 

Due process rights of disabled students and their parents under Section 504 shall be enforced.

 

At all times, the St. John the Baptist Parish School System shall be responsible for appointing a coordinator who will assure that the system complies with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.
