PROCEEDINGS OF THE ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST PARISH SCHOOL BOARD

RESERVE, LA - Special Meeting of May 11, 2010

 

The Chair called the meeting to order and read the following call:

 

HONORABLE MEMBERS OF THE SCHOOL BOARD

Parish of St. John the Baptist

 

Dear Board Member:

 

Upon call of the President, the St. John the Baptist Parish School Board will meet

in special session at Godchaux Grammar Cafeteria, 1600 Highway 44, Reserve, Louisiana, on Thursday, May 11, 2010, at 10:00 a.m.

 

An agenda for the meeting is attached.

The Chair called for a moment of silent meditation followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

ROLL CALL OF MEMBERS:

 

PRESENT: Messrs. Jones, Johnson, Wise, Bacas, Triche, Keller.

 

ABSENT: Messrs. Jack, Burl, Sanders, Ory.

 

There were 6 members present and 4 absent.

 

ITEM 3. Resignation of School Board Member District No. 5 and Appointment of Replacement.

 

Dr. Keller stated that Mr. James R. Madere, Board Member District No. 5, had announced his resignation effective May 10, 2010 and had recommended Mrs. Sherry DeFrancesch as his replacement on the Board.

 

A motion was made by the entire Board to accept Mrs. Sherry DeFrancesch as a replacement for Mr. James R. Madere.  There were no objections.  Messrs. Jack, Burl, Sanders, and Ory were absent.

 

Dr. Keller stated that Mrs. DeFrancesch was officially appointed as the replacement for Mr. Madere and welcomed her to the Board.  Mrs. DeFrancesch introduced herself to the Board.  She stated that she was married to Fred DeFrancesch, the physician and together they have 2 children that will be entering school soon.  She thanked the Board for the appointment and assured them that she is eager to work in the interests of all students of St. John Parish.

 

Dr. Millet welcomed Mrs. DeFrancesch to the Board. She then stated that a plaque had been made for Mr. Madere and would be delivered to him.  Dr. Millet read the plaque:  “Presented to James Ray Madere, in appreciation for over 8 years of loyal and dedicated service to St. John the Baptist Parish School District.  Board Member for Districts 5 and 9 from December of ’95 to September ’01 and January of ’08 to May of 2010.  Remember that one determined person can make a significant difference, and that a small group of determined people can change the course of history (Sonia Johnson).”

 

Dr. Millet stated that each Board member had at their places, a copy of the East St. John High School Yearbook and thanked Ms. Billie Dinvaut for her efforts on this book.  Dr. Millet also stated that the LEAP and GEE scores will be released on May 18, 2010.

 

ITEM 12. ADJOURNMENT: The agenda having been completed, and there being no further business, Mr. Jones offered a motion for adjournment, seconded by Mr. Triche. There were no objections. The meeting adjourned at 10:07 a.m.
