PROCEEDINGS OF THE ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST PARISH SCHOOL BOARD

RESERVE, LA – Special Meeting of April 2, 2013

 

The Chair called the meeting to order and read the following call:

 

            HONORABLE MEMBERS OF THE SCHOOL BOARD

            Parish of St. John the Baptist

            Dear Board Member:

            Upon call of the President, the St. John the Baptist Parish School Board will meet

in special session at Godchaux Grammar Cafeteria, 1600 Highway 44, Reserve, Louisiana, at 3:00 p.m., on Tuesday, April 2, 2013.

           

An agenda for the meeting is attached.

The Chair called for a moment of silent meditation followed by the Pledge of Allegiance led by Mr. Bacas.

 

ROLL CALL OF MEMBERS:

 

PRESENT:        Messrs. Jack, Keller, Johnson, Wise, Bacas, Nicholas and Triche

 

ABSENT:          Messrs. Burl, Sanders, Jones, and Ms. DeFrancesch.

 

There were 7 members present and 4 members absent.

 

ITEM 3.  HYA Firm – Establish Criteria & Timeline for Superintendent’s Search.

Mr. Benjamin Martindale and Dr. Louise Coleman, Consultants with HYA – Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates spoke to the board members on how to develop the criteria and timeline for the Superintendent Search.

 

Mr. Keith Jones arrived at 3:12 p.m. and was recorded present.

 

Each board member were given a binder containing steps, samples, planning meetings, interview process, community input, and interview questions.

 

After a lengthy discussion and development of a timeline the following will be completed for the Superintendent Search

 

Focus Groups will be:

 

 

Mr. Russ Wise left at 4:25 p.m. and was recorded absent.

 

Timeline:

April 16 – 18, 2013                     Establish Selection Criteria - HYA will conduct Focus Group Meetings and Interviews each School Board Member individually.

 

May 2, 2013                              HYA will present at the school board meeting scheduled for May 2, 2013 the Leadership Profile Report – which is developed through the Focus Group Meetings and Individual School Board Member interviews.

 

May 10, 2013                            Deadline to submit application for Superintendent

 

June 3, 2013                             Slate of Candidates

 

June 14 – 15, 2013                    First round of interviews

 

June 21 – 22, 2013                    Second round of interviews

 

June 24, 2013                           Special School Board Meeting to select Superintendent

 

Rev. Rodney Nicholas left at 4:34 p.m. and was recorded absent.

 

Advertisement will begin immediately in the Times Picayune, Morning Advocate, L’Observateur, Education Weekly, AASA, LSBA, and LSS.

 

Mr. Martindale indicated that inside candidates will be included in the Top 12 / Top 15.  Top 5 may not include inside candidates.

 

A motion was made by Mr. Jones and seconded by Dr. Keller to adjourn.  There were no objections; Burl, Sanders, DeFrancesch, Wise and Nicholas were absent, the meeting adjourned at 4:47 P.M.
